October 2026 –

We all know there is something very special about Brondesbury and I think the annual Finals Day is always an event that makes this come to life. Months of match anticipation, diary gymnastics in getting two or four people on court together, hope for the underdogs, disputed line calls and inevitable disappointment after glimmers of hope that this might be your year.

And then here we all are again, slowly congregating from midday in semi-sunshine this year, to watch all the finalists battle it out. And didn’t they just do that. So hard to choose which match to watch, from the incredible juniors for whom a win means so much, to the outstanding adults in both the plate and the overall competition, for whom a win means even more…….it was a joy to watch you all. 

Everyone was out there fighting hard for every point, it’s impossible to mention everyone so I won’t try! Congratulations to all the winners and runners up, great to see some new winners in there too this year giving us all a little hope! And a big congratulations to Darell and Nicola not just for running the tournament but also for oh so very nearly sneaking past George and Jane in the Mixed Doubles. George will be busy cleaning his trophies all set to take them all home again next year (or maybe not..!)

Thank you to all the dedicated players, umpires, spectators, organisers of the yummy food, Darrel and Nicola for sorting us all out with such patience and of course the amazing Marina and all the coaches for showing up and helping out. You are all brilliant and we are very lucky to have you at Brondesbury. Looking forward to next years tournament already.
